Organizations--like people--have a heartbeat that speeds up, slows down, and rests at a certain rate. Put your finger on that pulse and lead according to what you discover. You gain greater precicison about what's needed, how to be at your best as a leader, and how to help your colleagues do the same.
It's a powerful practice--and surpisingly uncommon--to be deliberate about synchronizing your requests, support, and change efforts according to three key heartbeat components:
- The volume and pace of work in your organization;
- The motivation / energy level of your people; and.
- The nature of the challenges or obstacles that stand in the way of your vision.
In my work as a coach, I run into leaders that lack the awareness or drive to adapt to this cadence, and find the results to be disheartened / demotivated people, frustrated clients, and a P&L that could use some work.
Try synchronizing your leadership more fully with the heartbeat of your organization, and you'll increase the odds that your people will consistently do their best work.
