Setting priorities for others is part and parcel of being a leader. Yet, from time to time, life has a way of suddenly reshuffling the deck of what’s important. Whatever shift may confront you, it’s only human to try sticking with the status quo. Leadership at such times is about feeling your feelings, standing up and accepting the new situation, and re-balancing your priorities so you can lead, live, work, and love at your best. While that may mean a step or two into the unknown, it's going to happen anyway. Isn't it better that it happens with your leadership, rather than despite you?
Self-Coaching Questions:
- What important person, situation, crisis, change, or need is calling my name right now?
- How must my current priorities shift to free me to answer that call, and be of service?
- What do I need to do / what help do I need to be at my absolute best in this new situation?
Note: Over 100 of these tips appear in my new book: Beyond Effective: Practices in Self-aware Leadership. Click on the image of the book at the top of this blog for more information.
