An executive recently asked me: "How will I know when it's time to move on to a new position?" As a coach, I find it helpful to look at the questions my clients find most important. Sometimes, the answer—or the compass pointing to it—is contained within the question itself. For example, if you're wondering whether it's time to make a change, then you're probably ready at least to consider your options, if not take the plunge. Challenge yourself to look at a bigger question you've been carrying around, and then ask yourself: What answers are suggested by this question of mine?
Note: In January 2008, over 100 of these tips will appear in my new book: Beyond Effective: Practices in Self-aware Leadership. Click on the image of the book at the top of this blog to be notified by the publisher when it’s available.
