Maturing as a leader involves removing masks that interfere with authenticity. Whether a "game face" during tough times, or a "poker face" when confronting uncertainty, well-intended disguises are rampant in the work world. This is particularly common with newer leaders, who often feign confidence when navigating new territory or encountering difficult situations. But hiding from others saps your own strength, confuses others, and, in the end, is simply ineffective. By contrast, authenticity -- thinking, speaking, and being committed to your values in all situations -- is the key to great leadership. Dare to remove your mask -- while you may at first feel over-exposed and vulnerable, your organization will operate with greater candor and effectiveness, and you will find yourself re-energized and rewarded in new ways..
